(August 28, 1997) Scott was telling the story of the hunt for Kilcaid around the Story Tree. Scott takes in a deep breath, and stands to face those gathered in front of him. His expression takes on a serious tone, and as he stands in front of the tree, he looks all the bit the noble Fang that he is descended from. He begins,"Tonight, I will speak of a story of a betrayer, and how he was brought to justice. This is not a story from the days of old, though. It is a story of now, and of people you know. I know many of you have heard of Kilcaid, the once Fang Adren whose crime was so great that Gaia herself was invoked to punish him. But I'm sure few of you know how he was brought here to face justice." Scott takes a step or two forward, and settles down in a crouch, his arms resting on his knees,"His guilt was clear, as was shown by our ways. Yet first, would any wish to hear why he was hunted?" Anne murmurs, "I should like to hear it all." Scott says,"It was before I came to this Sept. When I was still part of the Gathering Storm, the Sept that raised me. Kilcaid was an elder there, and one of my teachers. But his hard was hard, and set in the old ways. To him, change was a sign of taint of the lesser tribes. In him I saw a man whom I did not agree with, but could respect. For he had fought many battle agaisnt the Wyrm, had made many sacrifices for Gaia's sake. So, it was a night not inlike this one. My pack had been sent out of the bawn to investigate the reports that there might be a leech preying on humans in the area where some of our kin lived. It was a short night's investigation, for we quickly found this leech was nothing more than a human adolescent who was a bit to fond of the human culture's images of the leeches. I think they are called blood dolls, if I am not mistaken. In any event, we returned to the Caern, more than a little amused at our encounter with the 'leech.' Then we heard noises coming from where the cubs slept, and assuming that some were up past their curfew, and possibly causing mischief to boot, we made our way there. Our intent was to give a short lecture to the cubs, but what we found froze us in our tracks." Scott says,"We stood shocked, seeing a group of banes, led by a dancer slaughtering our cubs in their sleep. One of them had woken, and was struggling, but she was no match for the dancer. Rage filled our hearts, and we sprung upon them,"he rises quickly but gracefully to his feet at this, taking a step forward. "But the Alpha called out to me, Spirit, find the elder, raise the alarm. They must be warned. While my heart wanted to rip these wyrm things to bits, the duty was stronger. I ran through the Caern, howling alarm in hispo as I went. When I arrived at the elder's cave, I picked up the unmistakable scent of blood. I shifted up in the half man form, and found Kilcaid leaning over the Sept Alpha's body. The alpha's blood on his hands. But Kilcaid was not alone, there were banes there as well, mutliating the bodies of my former elders. The Wyrm was cunning, he struck at our past as well as our future." Scott says, his eyes showing a bit of fire. "The Rage that burned in my heart when I saw our bus murdered sprung forth now, and I called my former mentor the murder he was. He simply laughed, and motioned for banes to dispose of me. As they fell upon, I had few doubts I would not survive. But as I fought I reached out, and my hand clasped the handle of a weapon. I brought it up, and begin slashing at the Banes. The rest," his eyes unfocus a little," is not as clear to me. I remember stumbling out of the cave, and fighting more creatures of teh Wyrm before we drove them off. Although, it was at a terrible price. Of thirty Garou, only five survived, two of which were crippled. In my hand was the Klaive of the Sept Alpha. Why it had choosen to save me, I cannot know, other than it's hatred of the Wyrm was so great that it did not care if a lowly cliath wielded it for a short time. I vowed to find a deserving wielder for the weapon, but that, is another story." For the first time this evening, he smiles faintly. Scott says,"So, my search brought me here." He spreads his arms our, motioning about. "And once here, I found others that would be willing to hunt down the betrayer." He motions towards Alexander and Timothy. "We prepared for several months, and I learned the Rite of teh Questing Stone, so we could find him. My pack gathered, with Timothy-rhya, the Wendigo Touch Deer, and the Fianna theurge, Brynna Silverseer." His voice catches slightly as he mentions Brynna's name, but he forges on. "The stone said our path to Kilcaid led east, so an moon birdge was opened to the Gathering Storm. While it was not likely Kilcaid was still near the place of his crime, it was more likely he was there than any other place." Scott's voice noticably saddens,"But the bridge did not take us directly there. Because of the power that was stolen from this place we had to stop bridly in the mid west before continuing. Once we arrove at the Gathering Storm, the stone pointed more clearly north, and I knew he was not close by. After a few encouraging words from my former Sept-mates," he smiles again, reason not apparent," and another moon bridge opened to teh Shattered Oak, we proceeded to Boston." Scott says,"The Get and Shadow Lords there let us pass through their territory once Timothy-rhya, who was leading the hunt, explained our reasons. A quick trip through the forest, and then into the human form to travel a ways through the city on foot. We arrived at a large, multi-leved house, and Alexander and Randall began to scout around the sides and back, while the rest of us watched the front." Scott says "However, our group stood out somewhat in the scab. And they soon caught sight of us. As we moved towards the sides of the house, a bullet exploded through Brynna's shoulder. Even more surprisingly, there was no noise of from the firig of the gun. As we raced towards the house another bullet hit Touch Deer. Randall and and Alxander stormed in the back, while Unferth broke the front door down. Brynna and I slipped in through one of the side windows, and Timothy and Touch Deer did the same from the other side."" Scott says "As I slipped into the house, and concentrated of the sense that Gaia has gifted me with to detect the taint of the Wyrm. It was strong, but stronger towards the center of the house. Brynna, who had teh same gift, agreed with what I had sensed, and we headed towards the center, down a long hallways. Suddenly, a form burst across the opening of the hallway, a crinos. It scrabled down the stairs that were part of the open room the hall I was in led to, with Thunder's Claws, and Klaive on Night on it's heels. It didn't take much for me to figure out this must be a Dancer, and that Kilcaid must haved gathered a pack. The seer and I followed my pack-mates, chasing the Dancer deeper into the house." Scott says "We were not the only ones chasing a Dancer though, and soon the entirity of our War party was gathered in one room. Kilcaid stood before us, and he arrogantly challenged us to explaine what we were doing violating his territory. He then issued a challange, daring any of us to fight him in single combat. Timothy accepted, and brought up luna's defense around him as the duel began."" Scott crouches back down again,"But as Holds-the-Line tried to ue the gift of turning his claws silver, as Kilcaid had done, he found that the gift did not work. He crouched low, and struck at the other Adren as the Kilcaid activated another gift, one that kept Holds-the-Line from attacking. This was no surprise to me though, looking back on the duel. Kilcaid asked for honorable accord, a fair duel, yet possesed a fetish, in the shape of a Falcon, that made him invuneralbe to certain gifts. That's hardly a fair duel, eh? When on Garou can use their gifts, and the other can't." Timothy frowns slightly around this point in the story, though it's a passing expression that's quick to fade. Scott licks his lips,"Now, while Timothy-rhya and Kilcaid fought, our eyes turned to the four dancers that were standing before us. As my eyes met with one of them, I felt an colness settle over me, and felt a fear I never had before. It startled and frightened me. These were Wyrm-spawn, and while I might die figgting them, it would be a good death, so why was I afraid. Then I heard the urgings of my pack-brother, Unferth. He was calling us to fight these wyrm-things, send them back to the pits they were spawned from, and I felt the fear lift somewhat. Working myself into a froth, I leapt at one of the Dancer, the silve knife I had been give to wield striking deep and true. As I did, I saw Unferth fall on one of the other dancers, his axe cutting huge swaths of gore and blood. Klaive of Night moved forward more slowing, more carefully assessing his opponent. Touch Deer lept at the last Dancer, who wielded a gun. The gun thundered, and a silver bullet caught the Wendigo, knocking him back a little. Silverseer drew her knife and struck out at the Dancer who had injured Touch Deer." Scott continues,"Kilcaid struck out at Holds-the-Line, his silver claws sparking off of luna's defense. Randall slipped forward and struck true with teh Klaive that is his name-sake, soon downing the Dancer. Unferth continued to exchange blows with the Hispo Dancer, his axe hewing as her claws struck their final blows, life slipping away from her. Gaia must have blessed my own hand, because as the Dancer I had already hurt struck back at me, my knife hit true, killing the wyrmspawn." Scott says,"Holds-the-Line began returning Kilcaid's blows, much to the Dancer's surprise, and quickly turning the tables of the duel. Touch Deer lept again at the gunman, another bullet striking him in return. The last dancer was hurt, but not badly enough. He took aim on Touch Deer and fired, but he missed his target. The bullets meant for the Wendigo struck the Fainna instead as she stepped in front of him, taking the silver meant for Touch Deer." He pauses, and looks down at the ground before continuing. Scott clears his throat, and continues,"Brynna slumped to the ground, the damage from multiple silver bullets being too much for her body to take. Not surprising, I suppose, one of the flaws of her birth was a sensitivity to silver." He takes in a deep breath,"Randall, Unferth, and myself finished off the last Dancer in short order, Touch Deer lay near the edge of death, and surely would have slipped over if it hadn't been for Brynna's sacrifice. Remembering the healing talens she had made for us, I quickly slapped on on Touch Deer, after telling him to switch to man-form. Randall moved over to interceed into the duel between Timothy and Kilcaid, who was quickly subdued." Scott glances a little tentatvely in Timothy's direction before continuing. He lets out a long breath,"The rest was simple. We brought him back via moon bridge, and kept him here until he was tried." Scott says "I hope you all enjoyed the telling. It has been a too long since I have had an audience this big."
